Holly Recreation Area

Holly Recreation Area is a protected natural space spanning thousands of acres with woodland, open fields, and multiple lakes scattered throughout the land. Major highways pass through the area, making it easy to reach from nearby communities.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources established this protected area to preserve natural resources and offer outdoor spaces to the community. The land was set aside specifically for public use and ecosystem protection.

The area draws many visitors in late summer when the nearby Michigan Renaissance Festival brings crowds to the region. During these months, the natural spaces blend with cultural events happening nearby.

The area provides camping spots, rustic accommodations, and recreational facilities like disc golf for different types of visitors. Over 35 miles of trails accommodate both hiking and mountain biking, so visitors can choose activities based on their interests.

WhoaZone at Heron Lake features water-based obstacle courses with climbing structures and slides that appeal to adventure seekers. The adjoining groomed beach provides boat rentals for those interested in water activities.
