Hamilton Catholic High School, high school in Hamilton, Butler County, Ohio
Hamilton Catholic High School was a secondary education facility in Hamilton, Ohio, established in 1909 to serve Catholic boys in the area. The building at Dayton and Sixth Street was operated by the Brothers of Mary and served students through grade 12 until its closure in 1966, when operations moved to Father Stephen T. Badin High School.
The school was founded in 1909 after the Federation of Catholic Societies decided to establish a local educational facility for Catholic students in the community. Following rapid growth, a larger modern building was constructed in 1922, and the school closed in 1966, transferring operations to Father Stephen T. Badin High School while the original building was later repurposed for the Hamilton Board of Education.
The school was deeply rooted in the local Catholic community and shaped neighborhood life for decades. It served not only education but also the transmission of faith values and community responsibility, making it a meaningful place for families who wanted their children raised in this tradition.
The historic school building sits at the corner of Dayton and Sixth Street and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Visitors can observe the exterior brick structure with its traditional windows, though the interior now serves school district administration and access may be limited.
Several notable athletes attended the school, including Jim Holstein, who later became a basketball coach at the university level, and Kent Tekulve, who played Major League Baseball and was known for his distinctive pitching style. These alumni helped build the school's reputation, and their success stories remain part of local sports history.
