Rossville Historic District, Historic district in Hamilton, United States.
Rossville Historic District is a neighborhood on the west side of the Great Miami River with more than 100 buildings from Federal and Victorian times. The area spans several hundred acres and displays different architectural styles from these periods.
The district was founded in 1804 and named after Senator James Ross. In 1854 it merged with Hamilton to become part of a larger city.
The neighborhood displays grand homes along South D Street and Ross Avenue that reflect how wealthy factory owners wanted to live in the 1800s. These houses still shape what visitors see when walking through the area today.
Visitors can explore the district best on foot to see the different houses and streets at a relaxed pace. Walking allows you to notice details in the architecture and layout that you would miss from a car.
Early residents used flatboats on the Great Miami, Ohio, and Mississippi rivers to send farm goods all the way to New Orleans. These trade routes were crucial to how the settlement grew and prospered.
