New England Civil War Museum, History museum in Vernon, Connecticut, US

The New England Civil War Museum displays weapons, personal artifacts, and military memorabilia across multiple exhibition rooms in the Memorial Building. The space also contains an extensive library with over 1000 volumes on war history and original manuscript copies of historical war documents.

The building was originally a Grand Army of the Republic hall where the Thomas F. Burpee Post #71 held meetings from 1890 to 1929. After that period, a veterans group took over regular use of the space and continues to meet there.

The collection includes personal items from soldiers and their families that provide insight into everyday life during the war. These objects show how people of that era preserved their experiences and passed them on to future generations.

The museum opens on Saturdays and Sundays and welcomes visitors by appointment on other days. Planning ahead by contacting the location makes it easy to arrange a visit at a time that works best for you.

The hall has continuously hosted regular meetings of a veterans organization since 1890, making it one of the longest-running institutional gathering spaces of its kind in the country. This unbroken use by the same group for well over a century is rare and gives the place particular historical weight.
