Japanese Lighthouse
Japanese Lighthouse, Japanese lighthouse on Navy Hill in Garapan, Northern Mariana Islands.
The white concrete lighthouse rises 50 feet tall and includes a one-story keeper's quarters with a copper dome on top of the structure.
Built in 1934 during Japanese control of Saipan, the lighthouse guided ships into Tanapag Harbor until 1944 when American forces captured the island.
The lighthouse structure contains concrete made from burnt coral and seashells, reflecting traditional Pacific Islands construction methods of the 1930s.
Visitors can reach the lighthouse via Fuetsa Loop road, where GPS coordinates 15.211773, 145.731887 help locate this unmarked historical structure.
The structure operates as a coffee shop since 2021, offering views of Garapan, Managaha Island, and Mount Tapochao from its elevated position.
