Moses, Public steel sculpture at Toledo Museum of Art, US

Moses (3/3) is a black steel sculpture in the Toledo Museum of Art's sculpture garden. The work uses geometric forms and tilted planes with extended arms that project outward, creating a strong three-dimensional presence in the outdoor space.

Tony Smith created this sculpture in 1975 as the final piece in a three-part series. The other two versions of the work are located at different sites across the country.

The sculpture references the biblical figure Moses holding the tablets of the Ten Commandments through its two vertical extending arms and geometric composition.

The sculpture is located in the Georgia and David K. Welles Sculpture Garden, which you can reach through the main entrance of the museum. The garden is open during the museum's regular hours and gives you space to walk around the piece from different angles.

As you walk around the sculpture, its appearance shifts constantly because the black geometric planes and extended arms seem to form different shapes from every angle. This continuous visual play makes each visit and stroll around the work a fresh experience.
