Allen-White School, Educational structure in Whiteville, United States.
Allen-White School is a school building in Whiteville designed with traditional architectural elements and large windows. The structure features spacious classrooms that were laid out to accommodate students arriving from throughout the county.
The building was founded in 1905 as Hardeman County Training School and received financial support from the Julius Rosenwald Fund between 1918 and 1920. This backing enabled the construction and development of the facility into an important educational center.
The school was the only high school serving African American students in the county, drawing young people from across the region to study here. Families sent their children to attend classes at this institution, making it a gathering place for education.
The site is located in Whiteville near the town center, making it easy to reach. Visitors should note that the property is not currently open for access and can only be viewed from outside.
After closing, the property passed to an organization connected with El Canaan Missionary Baptist Church. A fire destroyed the structure in 2012, altering what remains visible at the site today.
