Hazelwood Park, Waterfront park in New Bedford, United States.
Hazelwood Park is a 23-acre waterfront space on Clark's Point featuring playgrounds, tennis courts, basketball courts, and open grass areas with views toward Clark's Cove. The grounds include a bathhouse, pavilion, and parking facilities to support visitors.
The park developed from three private country estates dating to the 1800s, including Joseph Congdon's Gothic Revival house built from 1839 to 1840. These properties were eventually converted into the public park that exists today.
The bowling green and community center serve as gathering spots where locals meet for events and recreation throughout the year. These facilities anchor the neighborhood's social life and bring people together for shared activities.
The park opens from sunrise to sunset and offers parking directly on the grounds for easy access. Bring comfortable shoes for walking and sun protection, as much of the space is open with limited shade.
Three historic structures remain on the grounds, notably the stone Congdon-Lucas House, which holds national landmark status and preserves the architectural heritage of the original estates. These buildings offer visitors a tangible connection to the site's transformation from private property to public space.
