Davis' Mills Battle Site, Civil War battlefield in Benton County, United States

Davis' Mills Battle Site is a 16-acre battlefield with visible settlement remains and earthworks located at a Wolf River crossing point in rural Benton County. The landscape shows how terrain and water access shaped military positions during the engagement that took place here.

The site became significant in 1862 when Federal forces under W.H. Morgan clashed with Confederate troops led by Major General Earl Van Dorn at this strategic river crossing. The engagement influenced control over regional supply routes and transportation networks during the war years.

The site preserves physical traces of how soldiers lived and fought during this Civil War engagement, with visible earthworks and settlement remains showing daily military operations. Visitors can observe how troops adapted to the terrain and organized their defensive positions along the river.

The site features interpretive signs and markers positioned throughout the grounds to guide visitors through the battlefield layout and key positions. Wear sturdy shoes as the terrain is uneven and partly overgrown from natural woodland conditions.

An ancient Native American mound on the property served as a natural defensive position for Federal troops during the battle. This overlap of two different historical periods in one location creates a layered narrative across centuries.
