Hillsborough Railroad Bridge, Railway bridge in Hillsborough County, US

The Hillsborough Railroad Bridge is a historic railway crossing built to carry trains over a waterway with a two-span lattice truss design. The structure features solid granite supports and wooden framing typical of early railroad engineering.

Built in 1903 for the Boston and Maine Railroad, this bridge carried trains for over 80 years as an important regional link. A fire in 1985 damaged the structure significantly and ended its service as an active rail route.

The structure represents one of fifty locations in Hillsborough County listed on the National Register of Historic Places, reflecting early 20th-century engineering methods.

The bridge sits in a rural setting surrounded by quiet countryside, making it easy to visit and explore at a relaxed pace. Walk around the structure and approach from the water level areas to get a good view of the granite supports and wooden details.

This bridge utilized vertical board siding and contained a central wooden pier, distinguishing it among the six covered railroad bridges in New Hampshire.
