Salem Lutheran Church, Farrar, Missouri

Salem Lutheran Church is a church building in Farrar with distinctive architectural features and detailed interior work. The structure displays three arched two-story windows running along each side, while the ceiling showcases stamped metal panels arranged in intricate patterns throughout the main worship space.

Twelve German settlers founded the Salem congregation in 1859, initially building a small log structure for worship. The current brick building replaced that original structure in 1886.

The congregation maintains strong German Lutheran traditions through regular services, continuing the religious practices of the original immigrant founders.

This church sits in a rural area east of Perryville and is accessible by car through country roads. Services are held as part of a shared parish arrangement with another congregation, so checking visiting times ahead of time is helpful.

The original pulpit once stood directly above the altar on the back wall but was relocated to the left side during the 1920s. This repositioning represents one of the few visible changes to the church's layout that visitors often miss.
