Monroe C. Gutman Library, Educational library at Harvard Graduate School of Education, United States.
Monroe C. Gutman Library is an academic research library at Harvard Graduate School of Education with more than 50,000 books available on site. The collection is supplemented by 200,000 additional materials stored in climate-controlled facilities elsewhere.
The library opened in 1972 as the first dedicated facility for the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Banker Monroe C. Gutman made the project possible through his substantial financial support.
The special collections show how American education has developed through historical textbooks and school archives on display. Visitors can see old teaching materials that reveal how classroom practice has changed over the decades.
Help is available at the Library Services Desk on the second floor, where staff assist with research and digital resources. The building also offers consultation services to support your work and research needs.
The building earned LEED Platinum certification in 2012 for environmental features like a green wall and water refill stations. These design choices show how contemporary buildings can integrate green practices into daily use.
