Coast Guard Beach, Atlantic beach in Eastham, United States.
Coast Guard Beach is a wide Atlantic shoreline with high sand dunes and beach grass that define the natural coastline. The beach stretches for several kilometers and offers open water access alongside areas of dense sand and scattered shell fragments.
The Massachusetts Humane Society established rescue stations here in 1786 after numerous ships wrecked in these treacherous waters. These stations became vital for recovering shipwrecked sailors during the height of maritime commerce.
The area was home to the Wampanoag people and later became central to whaling and fishing industries that shaped local life. Visitors today can sense this maritime heritage through stories and traditions that remain part of the community.
During summer months the beach is reached by shuttle bus from a nearby parking area since direct access is limited. The beach is quieter in early morning or late afternoon and offers better conditions for walking.
The adjacent salt marshes offer winter refuge for harbor seals that rest on sandbars and are visible from shore. Visitors often spot these animals at low tide when more of the seafloor becomes exposed.
