Baitur Rauf, Modernist mosque in Faidabad, Bangladesh
Baitur Rauf is a modern prayer house in Faidabad built with exposed red brick walls and designed to let natural light filter through circular ceiling openings. The interior follows a minimalist approach, creating a focused space for worshippers.
This house of prayer was completed in 2012 on land given by Sufia Khatun. Its design draws from the architectural traditions of the Bengal Sultanate period, connecting past influences with modern building methods.
The name Baitur Rauf means "House of Compassion" and reflects how this place serves as a gathering space for the local community. The simple, dignified interior invites visitors into a space meant for reflection and prayer.
The building stays cool through natural ventilation and airflow without needing electrical cooling systems. Visitors will find the interior remains comfortably tempered even on warm days.
This prayer house breaks away from typical Islamic architecture by leaving out domes and minarets entirely. Instead, it relies on geometric patterns and brick lattice work to create its own architectural character.
