Zurich Tram Museum

Zurich Tram Museum houses approximately 20 restored tram cars from different eras of the city's transportation history, located within the former Burgweis depot. The vehicles demonstrate how tram technology and design evolved across the decades, from early models to more modern versions.

The museum was founded in 1968 and relocated several times before settling at Wartau depot in 1989, then moving to Burgweis depot in 2007. This journey reflects both the growing collection and the museum's need to find suitable spaces to house and preserve its historical vehicles.

The museum displays uniforms, tickets, and photographs spanning over a century of Zurich's public transportation, telling the story of the workers who operated these systems. These artifacts show how crucial the tram was to the city's growth and daily life.

Plan your visit by checking opening times in advance, as the museum operates only on select afternoons. The venue is fairly accessible and allows visitors to walk through at their own pace to examine the different tram models up close.

On the last weekends of certain months, visitors can ride the restored Museum Line 21 tram that operates between the main train station and the museum. This rare opportunity lets visitors experience an actual tram journey rather than just viewing the vehicles on display.
