Schloss Interlaken

Schloss Interlaken is a castle with elements from multiple historical periods, situated between two large lakes in Switzerland. The complex features Gothic details, a cloister, an old chapel, and is surrounded by gardens and green spaces.

The site began as an Augustinian monastery around 1133 and was converted into an administrative seat after the Reformation in the 16th century. This shift shaped the building's purpose and appearance fundamentally.

The name reflects the castle's setting between two lakes, and its monastic past remains visible in the preserved cloisters and chapel that dot the grounds. Visitors can walk through these spiritual spaces and sense the connection to the site's religious foundations.

The grounds are easily walkable with clearly marked paths that make navigation straightforward. The best time to visit is from spring through fall, when the full site and gardens are accessible.

The building still serves as an active administrative center for the region, housing offices and civil services that operate daily. This dual role as both historical site and working government building is uncommon for a castle of this age.
