Hochfrottspitze, Alpine summit at Allgäu Alps, Germany and Austria.
Hochfrottspitze is an Alpine summit in the Allgäu Alps straddling the border between Germany and Austria, rising to 2,649 meters. The mountain features steep dolomite rock formations and a ridge that rises dramatically over exposed terrain.
Hermann von Barth made the first recorded ascent in 1869 and established the initial routes through the challenging terrain. These early climbs marked important milestones in developing the climbing culture of the region.
The mountain forms part of a trio with Trettachspitze and Mädelegabel and plays a central role in local mountaineering traditions. Experienced climbers regularly seek out this ridge as a classic challenge in the Allgäu Alps.
Technical climbing skills are required for the ascent, with exposed sections rated up to UIAA grade II+. Good equipment and experience with rocky terrain are essential before attempting this climb.
The upper slopes are marked by broken rock rubble and schrofen formations that create a distinctive jagged landscape. This fractured terrain makes navigation challenging and gives the summit area a striking appearance unlike typical Alpine peaks.
