Kemptner Hütte

The Kemptner Hütte sits at about 1844 meters elevation in the Allgäu Alps and serves as a key resting point on several long-distance hiking routes. The building accommodates around 290 people in different room types, from dormitories to smaller shared spaces.

The shelter was founded in 1891 by the German Alpine Association and was one of the first organized mountain lodges in the region. This establishment marked the beginning of modern alpine tourism in the Allgäu.

The hut serves as a gathering place where hikers from many countries meet and share their mountain experiences. Visitors find a welcoming environment where people eat together and exchange stories about their trails and adventures.

The hut is best reached during summer and early autumn when trails are snow-free and conditions are stable. During this time, advance booking is wise as accommodation fills quickly in good weather.

The area around the shelter is a natural habitat for marmots that can be seen regularly on the grounds. These curious animals are accustomed to human visitors and offer a rare glimpse into alpine wildlife behavior.
