Frankfurt-Kalbach-Riedberg, Municipal district in northern Frankfurt, Germany.
Frankfurt-Kalbach-Riedberg is a municipal district in northern Frankfurt comprising two distinct areas with different characters. Kalbach occupies the western section with older buildings and an established street layout, while Riedberg to the east features contemporary residential construction and modern infrastructure.
Kalbach was first documented in the 8th century as an independent settlement with its own local development. The district merged into Frankfurt's administration in 1972, followed decades later by the creation of Riedberg as a large new residential development on previously undeveloped land.
Kalbach retains the feel of a traditional neighborhood with local shops and narrow streets, while Riedberg presents itself with modern squares and wide thoroughfares. These two areas reflect different approaches to urban living that visitors can see firsthand.
The district is accessible by subway and served by regular bus connections throughout the area. Those exploring on foot or by bicycle will find flat terrain and green spaces connecting different parts of the neighborhood.
Riedberg rose from agricultural fields to become one of Frankfurt's largest modern residential districts. Many buildings there were designed with environmental sustainability and green living principles in mind from the start.
