Atlantis Childrens' Museum, Children's museum in Inner Harbor, Duisburg, Germany.
Atlantis Children's Museum was a museum in the Inner Harbor of Duisburg dedicated to exploring urban life. Located in a converted grain mill, the three floors featured interactive stations and hands-on exhibits that visitors could touch and manipulate.
The museum opened in 2004 inside a former grain mill that had been renovated for this purpose, supported by European Union funding and regional development initiatives. However, it remained open for only a few years before financial problems forced its closure in November 2007.
The museum encouraged children to explore their urban surroundings through interactive spaces. Visitors experienced the city from different perspectives, ranging from underground areas to rooftop views.
Visitors should be aware that this museum is no longer operating and has been closed since 2007. The building has since been adapted for different uses.
The museum was organized around three distinct zones representing different vertical levels: underground, street level, and above the city. This unusual vertical structure gave children a completely different way to think about their surroundings.
