Atze Musiktheater, Family theatre in Wedding, Germany
The Atze Musiktheater is a performance venue in Berlin-Mitte with two stages: a main hall seating 480 and a studio stage with 150 seats. The theater operates with around 35 actors and 17 musicians who create regular productions for children.
The venue began in 1985 as a band project by Thomas Sutter in Kreuzberg and transformed during the mid-1990s into a dedicated theater for families and children. This shift marked the start of its ongoing work in performance and music for young audiences.
The theater creates a space where young audiences aged 4 to 13 discover stories, music, and theater together through productions designed for their age groups. These performances blend learning with entertainment and directly connect to how children experience the world around them.
The venue offers morning shows specifically for school groups and afternoon performances for families, making it easy to plan your visit. The two stages allow different productions to run at the same time.
The name 'Atze' comes from Berlin dialect meaning brother, showing the special bond between this theater and young audiences. This choice reflects the goal of being a close, friendly place rather than a distant cultural institution.
