Heinrich-Schliemann-Museum, Archaeological museum in Ankershagen, Germany.

The Heinrich-Schliemann-Museum occupies a preserved 18th-century parsonage arranged across ten thematic rooms displaying archaeological finds and historical documents. The collections showcase results from major excavation sites alongside extensive archival materials spanning his lifetime of research.

The museum was established in 1980 to commemorate Heinrich Schliemann, who lived in this building as a child from 1823 to 1832. His later excavations at Troy and Mycenae fundamentally changed archaeological practice and established him as one of the field's most influential figures.

The museum reflects how Schliemann's childhood in this place shaped his later passion for archaeology and discovery. Visitors encounter personal documents and correspondence that trace his journey from local boy to celebrated archaeologist.

The building sits in a small village and is easily reached on foot, with adequate time to browse all rooms and read the information displays carefully. Access is at ground level, and the site is compact enough to experience everything without rushing.

The museum houses one of the largest private collections of research materials related to ancient sites, including thousands of letters and handwritten notes. These personal archives offer rare insight into the daily work of an early archaeologist beyond the famous excavation discoveries.
