Käflingsbergturm, Fire lookout and observation tower in Kargow, Germany
Käflingsbergturm is a steel lattice tower with a triangular cross-section rising 55 meters at an elevation of about 100 meters. Its structure serves multiple purposes and provides visitors access to an observation platform.
The tower was built in 2000 by Deutsche Telekom for mobile network coverage. In 2005, the German state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania took over management of the structure.
The tower serves as a gathering point for hikers exploring the landscape around Lake Müritz. It connects different walking routes and helps visitors discover the natural surroundings of the region.
The climb up 167 steps to the observation platform offers views of the towns of Waren and Neustrelitz and the surrounding lakes. Visitors should note that the stairs are steep and sturdy footwear is recommended.
The tower houses a forest fire monitoring station in a cabin at 36 meters height that watches over the region's forests around the clock. Many visitors are unaware of this function, even though it helps protect the landscape.
