Driedorfstausee, reservoir
Driedorfstausee is a reservoir located in Hesse near the towns of Mademühlen and Driedorf, formed by an earth dam that holds back water from the Rehbach stream. The calm water surface reflects the surrounding forest and creates a peaceful setting bordered by green vegetation.
The dam was constructed between 1932 and 1935 to store water from the Rehbach stream and control flooding in the region. Since its completion, the reservoir has supplied water for hydroelectric power generation in the Rehbachtal valley.
The reservoir has served the local community as a place for relaxation and outdoor enjoyment for many generations. Families and visitors use the shores for peaceful walks and quiet moments away from daily routines.
The reservoir is easily accessible with simple walking paths around the shores suitable for visitors of all ages. Nearby areas offer small restaurants and seating spots where visitors can spend a relaxing day without needing formal facilities directly on site.
The dam features an unusual L shape with a main section of about 250 meters and a secondary section of about 200 meters, making it distinctive among similar structures in the region. The control walkway built into the dam allows visitors to observe the engineering craftsmanship from the 1930s up close.
