Islamisches Zentrum München

The Islamic Center Munich is a mosque in Schwabing-Freimann featuring a distinctive parabolic concrete shell as its roof structure. The building stands out with its 33-meter-high minaret made of white concrete and glass, a landmark in the neighborhood.

The center was built between 1967 and 1973 and was the first mosque of its kind in Bavaria at that time. It emerged during a period when such facilities were still rare in Germany.

The center functions as a gathering place for Munich's Muslim community, hosting prayers and various community events throughout the week. Regular classes and programs here bring together people of different generations and backgrounds.

The building is located in a quiet residential area and is easily accessible by public transport. Visitors should wear appropriate clothing and observe the customary behavior guidelines when entering the prayer hall.

The construction was funded through support from fourteen Islamic nations, with Libya providing a major contribution. This international cooperation made the project a symbol of global Muslim solidarity.
