Aviation Museum Hannover-Laatzen, Aviation museum in Laatzen, Germany.
Aviation Museum Hannover-Laatzen is an aviation museum located in Laatzen near Hannover. It displays approximately 38 aircraft, 800 scale models, and about 30 aircraft engines across roughly 3,500 square meters of exhibition space.
Founder Günter Leonhardt recovered several Ju 52 aircraft from a Norwegian lake where they had sunk in 1940, then opened the museum in 1992. The rescue of these historical planes from the water formed the foundation for today's collection.
The museum displays aircraft and engines that tell the story of German aviation's evolution. Visitors can see how flight technology progressed from early experiments to modern civilian design.
The museum is located near Hannover's trade fair grounds and opens Tuesday through Sunday. Visitors should allow enough time to explore the different exhibition areas.
The museum preserves an original Jumo 004A, one of the earliest jet engines ever built. The collection also includes rare wartime fighter aircraft such as the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 and Messerschmitt Bf 109.
