Moore bei Buxtehude

Moore bei Buxtehude is a nature reserve spanning across Buxtehude and Neu Wulmstorf with open grasslands, birch woods, and varied habitat types. The terrain features interconnected wetland and bog sections separated by ditches and water channels that define its structure.

The reserve received official protected status in 2006 under joint management by the Stade and Harburg districts. This administrative structure has enabled coordinated protection of the bog ecosystems and their biodiversity.

The protected area hosts distinctive bird populations, including corncrakes that inhabit the open meadows and grasslands. Visitors come to observe these species in their breeding grounds during the warmer seasons.

Walking trails traverse the different landscape sections, allowing you to explore varied habitats at your own pace. The flat terrain with minimal elevation changes makes it accessible for most visitors regardless of fitness level.

A dense network of drainage channels crosses the reserve and regulates water levels between different bog types. These engineered systems are fundamental to maintaining both lowland and raised bog conditions throughout the area.
