Robert-Kolb-Tower

The Robert-Kolb-Tower is a stone observation building located on the Nordhelle mountain at a height of about 18 meters. From its vantage point, visitors can see across the Sauerland landscape.

The tower was inaugurated on September 21, 1913, at a location with a longer past. A Napoleonic telegraph station had previously occupied the spot, followed by a wooden tower from the 1880s. The succession of structures shows the enduring importance of this summit.

The tower is named after Robert Kolb, a trail warden who shaped the hiking network of the Sauerland region. His legacy remains visible in how locals and visitors use this spot as a reference point on walking routes.

Access to the tower follows the operating hours of the neighboring restaurant that has been located at this spot since the 1960s. It is best to visit when the restaurant is open or check ahead to confirm access.

Between 2010 and 2011 the building underwent a thorough overhaul, with portions of surrounding vegetation removed to improve sightlines. This work refreshed the site while maintaining its historic character.
