Stephanikirche zu Goslar

Stephanikirche is a baroque church featuring three naves and a prominent west tower that shapes Goslar's townscape. Inside, carved columns support an organ gallery, while an ornate altar and decorated pulpit define the interior space.

The present building was completed in 1734 and replaced a 12th-century Romanesque basilica destroyed in the city fire of 1728. Reconstruction after this disaster shaped the church's baroque form.

The church is named after Saint Stephen and displays interior craftsmanship created by local artisans of the period. These works reflect the skill that existed in the town during the 18th century.

The church opens from Palm Sunday through October, with winter services held in a nearby chapel during the cooler months. Visitors should check opening times and use the west entrance to access the interior.

The wooden spiral columns of the organ gallery stand out for their skilled execution and reveal details that reward close observation on each visit. These columns exemplify the specialized work of carpenters and carvers who labored after the fire.
