Uwe-Dün, Coastal dune summit in Kampen, Germany
Uwe-Dün is a coastal dune in Kampen reaching 52.5 meters above sea level with an observation platform at its peak. From there, visitors can see the North Sea, the Danish island of Rømø, and the German-Danish mainland.
Since the 1920s, the dune has served as a navigation point for maritime traffic and was fitted with a wooden staircase. This 110-step structure allowed people to reach the observation platform and shaped the site's appearance.
The dune takes its name from a 19th-century lawyer who championed the unity of the Schleswig-Holstein region. This name remains a reflection of local heritage and regional identity.
The climb requires ascending numerous steps to reach the observation platform, which demands some physical effort. The location is not wheelchair accessible and bicycles cannot be brought along.
From the platform, visitors can spot the Langer Christian lighthouse and ships crossing the North Sea. This maritime activity makes the location a natural observation post for sea traffic.
