Rittergut Voldagsen, Estate in Coppenbrügge, Germany
Rittergut Voldagsen is a historic rural estate in the municipality of Coppenbrügge, Lower Saxony, made up of a Neo-Renaissance manor house, farm buildings, and a landscaped park. All parts of the ensemble sit on a single connected plot, forming a coherent agricultural and residential complex.
The estate was first recorded in 1350 as property of the Counts of Spiegelberg, and it passed through the hands of several noble families over the following centuries. The von Münchhausen family held it for more than two centuries before ownership changed in 1878.
The estate is used today as an event venue, welcoming weddings and private gatherings in its historic rooms and courtyard. Walking through the grounds, visitors can see how a working rural estate of this kind was once organized and inhabited.
The estate sits directly off the B1 federal road and is easy to reach by car, with parking available on site. Since the grounds serve as an event venue, it is worth checking in advance whether the property is open to visitors on a given day.
The grounds contain a multi-faced sundial dating from around 1700, which survives from the time of the von Münchhausen family's ownership. That family is connected to Baron Münchhausen, the fictional storyteller, whose great-grandfather once held the estate.
