Blub, Former water park in Neukölln, Berlin, Germany
Blub was an indoor water park in Neukölln, Berlin, that housed several swimming pools, water slides, and leisure facilities under one large roof. The complex occupied a sprawling site and offered visitors access to different zones with varying water temperatures and activities.
The facility opened in 1985 and drew around 600,000 visitors each year during its early period. Health department concerns forced its closure in the late 1990s, and the building then remained vacant for more than two decades.
The name Berliner Luft- und Badeparadies combined a reference to a famous local song with the promise of an all-weather escape for families seeking relief from the city routine. Its large glass facade and tropical plants inside created an atmosphere that felt far removed from the urban surroundings.
The site was demolished in 2021 and now makes way for a new residential area with 860 units. Visitors can explore the surrounding neighborhood to get a sense of how the district is changing with the planned Greenpark project.
The construction company Bauwens plans to create living space with fitness studios and subsidized housing on the site by 2026. The new project will equip the area with additional green spaces and modern amenities that have been missing in this part of Neukölln.
