Falkenturm

The Falkenturm is a fortified tower in Munich's Old Town with a rectangular base and thick stone walls, rising on the eastern side of Marienplatz. The structure measures approximately 8 feet (2.5 meters) thick and shapes the character of the medieval center.

The tower was built in the Middle Ages as part of the city's defenses and later served as a prison until 1826. Its conversion to this purpose reflects Munich's shift from purely military structures to civil justice administration.
