Naturtheater Grötzingen

Naturtheater Grötzingen is an open-air theatre in Aichtal featuring an innovative concrete shell roof structure and seating for approximately 850 spectators. The venue accommodates diverse types of performances and regularly hosts special morning sessions designed for school groups and kindergarten children.

The theatre was built in 1954 by architect Michael Balz and structural engineer Heinz Isler using pioneering shell construction methods. This construction approach was groundbreaking and demonstrated new possibilities for concrete roof structures.

The venue presents theatrical productions throughout the summer, ranging from adaptations of literary classics to children's shows and musical performances. These productions draw audiences from the surrounding region and form an important part of the local cultural calendar.

The venue is accessible on foot and is best visited during the warmer months when the open-air season is active. It is advisable to book seats in advance since many performances fill up quickly.

The thin concrete shell was specifically designed to comply with the regulations of an adjacent nature reserve and blend naturally with the forest setting. This thoughtful design approach enabled the theatre to be built without disrupting the natural landscape.
