Wartturm, Stone tower in Weingarten, Germany
The Wartturm is a 13-meter-tall stone structure in Weingarten, Baden-Württemberg. The robust tower stands at the junction where historical trade routes once crossed.
The tower was built in 1589 and served to monitor surrounding communities and the lower Hardt region. It later became a place to preserve memories of local history.
The tower now houses a local history museum displaying artifacts from different periods of the region. Visitors can see finds from prehistoric burial mounds, Roman times, and the medieval era.
The tower is open from Easter to All Saints Day on Sundays and holidays. The best time to visit is during the warmer months when opening days are more frequent.
A sandstone relief featuring an angel, created in 1956 by sculptor Edzard Hobbing, adorns the facade. The artistic work shows modern appreciation for this historical structure.
