Ribadesella

Ribadesella is a coastal town in Asturias situated where the Sella River flows into the sea, surrounded by mountains and green countryside. The settlement sits at about 21 meters above sea level and faces the Cantabrian Sea.

Greek geographer Strabo mentioned the settlement in the first century BC and recorded the presence of the Salaeni people in the region. This stands as the earliest known written reference to the area.

The annual kayak race each August brings paddlers to compete on the Sella River. This event shows how much the local community values water sports and outdoor activities.

The Tito Bustillo Cave holds wall paintings roughly 29,000 years old and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site for Paleolithic cave art. These artworks rank among the oldest traces of human creativity in the region.
