Saelices el Chico’s roman villa

Saelices el Chico's Roman villa is an archaeological site with remains of residential buildings and garden areas from ancient times. The preserved structures include patterned floor mosaics and organized spaces that show how a Roman country estate was laid out.

The site began as a Roman country house and went through several phases of occupation over the centuries. It shows how the property evolved from an early estate into later settlements that reveal changes in how people lived and built their homes.

The site reveals objects that reflect everyday Roman life, including vessels for food storage, glass items for personal care, and bone accessories that residents used daily. These discoveries show how people dressed, cooked, and organized their households across different time periods.

The site sits north of the town center and is accessible on foot, with the location in open ground making it easy to navigate. When visiting, watch for uneven terrain and exposed archaeological areas to move safely through the remains.

The excavations uncovered more than 23,000 artifacts including finely crafted glass items and bone accessories that provide rare insight into Roman craftsmanship techniques. This large collection of objects reveals the wealth and skilled trade practices of the people who lived here.
