Museo Íbero, Archaeological museum in Jaén, Spain.
Museo Íbero is an archaeological museum in Jaén that displays artworks and artifacts from ancient Iberian settlements. The collection spans four thematic exhibition areas housed in a contemporary building with clearly organized galleries.
The museum opened in 2017 following the demolition of the former Provincial Prison of Jaén that once occupied the site. This transformation represents a shift from a detention facility to a space dedicated to understanding ancient societies.
The permanent display features four archetypal figures from Iberian culture represented through sculptures and objects that show how these characters appeared across different time periods. Visitors encounter these representations in the exhibition halls as part of understanding daily life and beliefs of ancient Iberian societies.
The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday, with extended opening hours during the cooler months of the year. Guided tours and educational programs are available for visitors of all ages.
The collection brings together discoveries from five major archaeological excavation sites including Cerrillo Blanco, Cástulo, and Puente Tablas. These pieces come from different regions of the Iberian Peninsula and reveal the variety within these ancient cultures.
