Iglesia de San Andrés

Iglesia de San Andrés is a church with three naves and basilica layout located in Jaen's historic center. The interior features baroque altarpieces and a large organ, while a central courtyard connects multiple chambers.

The building dates to the medieval period and may have originally been a Jewish synagogue before conversion to a Christian parish church in the 13th century. This transformation reflects the religious changes that occurred in Jaén during that time.

The Santa Capilla chapel displays baroque artworks and served as a gathering place for a local confraternity dedicated to honoring Mary. Visitors can still see traces of this religious tradition in the decorations and furnishings of the interior.

The main entrance is on Rostro Street, providing direct access to the interior. The church layout is easy to navigate as different areas flow logically from the central courtyard, which serves as a natural orientation point.

The ceiling vault of the Santa Capilla displays Gothic-Mudejar plasterwork, an artistic blend of different styles rarely seen together in regional churches. This decorative fusion extends to its representation of the Immaculate Conception, which stands out as an uncommon artistic choice.
