Cofradía del Perdón

The Cofradía del Perdón is a religious confraternity in Jaén with its canonical headquarters at the Cristo Rey Church. The church building features three naves, a spacious presbytery, and religious murals that decorate the interior.

The confraternity was founded in 1952 and held its first procession on Palm Sunday in 1954. In 1980, it moved this event to Holy Wednesday, where it continues to take place today.

Members wear white tunics with colored sashes and cuffs that show which of the three devotions they follow within the brotherhood. This visual distinction has become an important part of how the group expresses its faith during public processions.

The brotherhood organizes its processions during Holy Week, with the main event taking place on Wednesday evening in the streets of Jaén. Visitors should expect large crowds and plan their route accordingly during this time.

From 1955 to 1974, the confraternity secured the annual release of one prisoner from Jaén Provincial Prison. This remarkable practice led prison authorities to become honorary governors of the brotherhood.
