Grupo Escolar Gascón y Marín

The Grupo Escolar Gascón y Marín is a school building featuring a V-shaped floor plan with rounded central chamfer and exposed brick walls adorned with restrained decorative details. An interior courtyard connects the wings and provides space for student activities.

Built between 1915 and 1919, this was the first school building in Zaragoza designed with modern graded teaching systems in mind. Its construction represented a shift in how educational spaces were conceived and organized locally.

The building displays medallions honoring prominent figures from Aragon's educational and cultural world, celebrating local academic traditions that shaped the region.

The building follows hygienist principles with spacious, well-ventilated areas that make orientation straightforward. The central courtyard provides clear pathways through the complex and intuitive access to different school sections.

The design draws from the Patio de la Infanta at Casa Zaporta, merging Renaissance elements with modern school design principles. This blend of local architectural references with innovative teaching concepts created a distinctive educational building for its era.
