Corme e Laxe estuary

The Corme e Laxe estuary is a coastal inlet along Galicia's northern shore with natural coves, rocky cliffs, and sandy beaches. The area features multiple swimming and walking spots linked by a rugged shoreline shaped by geological forces.

The area developed around maritime activity, marked by the 15th-century Santa Maria da Atalaia church built as a fortified structure near Laxe port. This stone building reflects the settlement's importance as a protected harbor center.

Local fishermen practice traditional barnacle gathering at Punta do Roncudo, a skill passed down through generations. This work shapes the region's food culture and remains central to how people here understand their connection to the sea.

Multiple access points along the coast connect visitors to different beaches and pathways. The main starting point is Laxe, from which you can walk in both directions, with trails varying in difficulty depending on the terrain.

White crosses stand at Punta do Roncudo as memorials to barnacle gatherers who drowned while harvesting in rough waters. These quiet monuments speak to the dangerous nature of coastal work and shape the way the landscape is remembered.
