Torre Blanca, Historical watchtower in Fuengirola, Spain
Torre Blanca is a defensive watchtower on a hilltop in Fuengirola positioned beside the N-340 road. The structure features a horseshoe-shaped layout with two floors and a rooftop terrace.
The tower was built in 1765 as part of a network of coastal defenses protecting against attacks from North Africa. In the 1960s it was relocated from its original site to make way for road expansion.
The tower represents the architectural evolution of Spanish coastal fortifications, transitioning from Moorish designs to later Christian military engineering principles.
The tower stands beside the main road and near the Osborne Bull landmark, making it easy to spot and access from your car. The location offers views of the surrounding coastal landscape and the highway below.
The original entrance was positioned six meters above ground and accessed only by rope ladders, protecting soldiers from surprise attacks. This defensive feature was common on coastal watchtowers of that era.
