Benalmádena Stupa

The Benalmádena Stupa is a Buddhist sanctuary rising 33 meters high from the slopes of the Sierra de Mijas, perched above the Mediterranean coast. The structure includes a meditation hall spanning 100 square meters and an underground level with exhibition spaces.

The sanctuary was inaugurated in October 2003 as the final project of Buddhist master Lopon Tsechu Rinpoche. During his lifetime, the master had constructed 16 stupas distributed across Europe.

The walls of the meditation hall display scenes from Buddha Sakyamuni's life, inviting quiet reflection on Buddhist teachings. The lower level holds exhibitions about Tibetan traditions and the cultures of the Himalayan region.

The site is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 to 14:00 and 15:30 to 18:30, allowing time to explore both the meditation hall and exhibitions at your own pace. Visitors interested in meditation can join sessions held on Tuesday and Friday evenings.

Unlike sealed stupas found elsewhere, this structure was designed for public use and interaction. Visitors can enter the meditation hall and explore the underground exhibitions, making it an accessible gateway to Buddhist practice and learning.
