Cueva del Toro

Cueva del Toro is a cave entrance situated within the limestone landscape of El Torcal nature reserve near Málaga. The opening sits at roughly 1,190 meters elevation among the distinctive rock formations that characterize this protected area.

People first inhabited this cave around 5,280 BC, as revealed through archaeological excavation. This early presence marks the beginning of human settlement in this mountainous region.

The cave's name references the bull, an animal important in the folklore of this region. The site held meaning for people who lived among these limestone formations over many generations.
