Bioparc Fuengirola, Modern conservation zoo in Fuengirola, Spain
Bioparc Fuengirola is a modern zoo featuring four distinct sections representing Madagascar, Equatorial Africa, South-East Asia, and Indo-Pacific regions. More than 200 animal species live here in enclosures designed to mimic natural environments rather than traditional cages.
The Bioparc was established to create a new approach for Spanish zoos by removing traditional barriers between animal areas and between animals and visitors. This innovation changed the standard for zoos in Spain and demonstrated that open landscapes work better for animal welfare.
The park focuses on teaching visitors about endangered animals and how they behave in the wild through daily presentations and information displayed around the enclosures. You can learn why protecting these creatures matters by watching them live in spaces designed to mimic their natural homes.
The park is located about a ten-minute walk from Fuengirola train station and operates daily from 10 AM to 8 PM, with online tickets available at reduced rates. Plan your visit for the morning to see the animals most active, as many rest during the heat of the day.
In the Madagascar section stands a massive artificial baobab tree that serves as both a landmark and contains training rooms and viewing platforms inside. This structure offers a unique place to learn about African ecosystems while providing new perspectives on the island's wildlife.
