Aktian talo, Banking building in Kamppi, Finland
Aktian talo is a nine-story office building located on Arkadiankatu in downtown Helsinki with a facade of polished gray granite and bronze-framed windows. The structure contains office and service spaces accessible through a central entrance hall.
The building was designed by Kurt Simberg with construction starting in 1961 and completion in May 1963. It replaced an older Neo-Renaissance structure and marked a shift in how the downtown area developed.
The building expresses the design philosophy of its era through clean lines and restrained details. Its position between two districts makes it a visual anchor that residents and visitors pass by regularly.
The building is easily accessible by public transportation and sits in the pedestrian-friendly heart of the city. The exterior facade is clearly visible from the street, though access to specific areas depends on the building's current use.
The building connects directly to the Forum shopping center since 2006, linking office space with retail in an integrated way. Many visitors overlook this internal connection when walking past the street facade.
