New Student House, Art Nouveau office building in Kluuvi, Helsinki, Finland
The New Student House is an Art Nouveau office building on Mannerheimintie 5 in Kluuvi, designed by architects Armas Lindgren and Wivi Lönn. It features flowing forms and decorative facade elements that are characteristic of the Art Nouveau style of that period.
The building opened in 1910 and housed the Hotel Hansa within its premises from 1924 to 1968. This phase shaped it as a multifunctional location serving both guests and students.
The building houses several student organizations that conduct their daily activities here, making it a living hub for university students in Helsinki. The spaces reflect a long tradition of student cooperation and self-governance that characterizes Finnish academic culture.
The location is easily accessible near Helsinki central station and sits on a main thoroughfare where you can walk past it. The surrounding area has various shops and restaurants, making it a practical point in the city center.
The building stands directly next to the historic Hotel Seurahuone, and both structures are planned to be connected into one large hotel under Hyatt management in the future. This connection will bring together two important historic buildings and reshape the architectural landscape of the area.
