Luma Tower, Cultural center building in Arles, France
Luma Tower is an arts center in Arles with 11 floors covered in stainless steel panels that reflect light differently throughout the day. Inside, exhibition spaces, a library, workshops, offices, and an auditorium with 150 seats serve visitors and creative professionals.
The tower opened in 2021 as part of a project transforming former railroad factories into an arts center under Maja Hoffmann's leadership. This development marked a shift toward making Arles a contemporary creative hub.
The tower's design draws from Vincent van Gogh's artistic legacy and Provence's natural landscape, creating a visual dialogue between modern architecture and regional identity. This connection shapes how visitors experience the building within Arles' artistic heritage.
The building sits in a redeveloped area of town with clear access points and easy visibility. Visitors should check opening hours before arriving, as different areas may have varying access depending on current exhibitions or events.
The building's exterior incorporates salt harvested from local Camargue salt ponds, blending industrial heritage with regional materials in an unexpected way. This choice roots the structure in its local environment through a material most visitors never notice.
