Saint-Honorat des Alyscamps church

Saint-Honorat des Alyscamps is a medieval church set within an ancient necropolis in Arles, displaying Romanesque architecture with a distinctive octagonal bell tower and central dome. The building remains incomplete, as only the first bay of the planned five-bay nave was actually constructed, reflecting the interrupted construction history.

Construction began in the 12th century but lack of funding prevented completion, leaving it an unfinished structure. This interrupted building plan continues to define the monument's appearance and tells a story of medieval economic constraints.

The church sits within the Alyscamps necropolis, a place of deep meaning for pilgrims traveling toward Santiago de Compostela. Visitors today can sense the spiritual connection to this pilgrimage route, which shapes how people experience the site.
